Telephone systems are also know as also known as PBX systems, Hybrids, Convergence systems, Voice over IP or IP systems, Keysystems POTs. TDM, digital systems
Types of extensions are POTs - plain ordinary telephones. keyphones -normally the manufactures branded phones with programmable keys sold with a specific system. IP or VOIP extensions- use the data network to carry telephone calls which means an IP extension can be either within the office or anywhere outside where a connection to the office network is available
Analogue, ISDN 2, ISDN30, ISDN, DDIs, (A group of numbers that works on ISDN lines. CLI, Trunk to Trunk Transfer (connecting two telephone lines to transfer calls to external destinations), SIP Trunks, (telephone lines that use the Internet rather than being fed from the local telephone exchange.
These can either be telephone lines, extensions or both, and is basically where telephone call traffic is carried by the data network or Internet.
SIP exchange lines or Trunks are becoming more popular as the technology and quality of service has improved. As SIP lines are fed via the Internet they are non geographic meaning a number from anywhere in the can be made at any location, so if you are based in say Birmingham there is nothing to stop you having London phone number if you wish.
This also means that if you are relocation your business you can take your existing telephone number with you to almost anywhere else in the country.
Normally offered as additional items such as voicemail and auto attendants (press 1 for sales etc) and to offer callers to leave a message for individual extensions or Company messages
Provides a record or who has made or received a telephone call, when, how long for, how long before it was answered, how many unanswered and abandoned calls etc etc. Very useful to ensure that calls are being dealt with in an efficient way and also to prevent also abuse.
Automatic call distribution, used to ensure calls are passed to staff in the most efficient way.
Used to record inbound and outbound telephone calls and stored on a PC. All calls can be recovered by searching by extension number, Date, time, telephone number etc.
Computer Telephony Integration whereby the telephone system is linked to PCs via the data network either within or outside of the office. Applications such as NEC MyCalls Desktop offer a computer based telephone, visual status of other extensions and calls, and “screenpop” whereby a callers data can be popped up automatically on a computer before or during a telephone call. This can use various software applications such as Outlook, Act, Sage, Goldmine and Maximiser etc.
This is where there is no telephone system in the users premises. Users are connected to a host platform with IP telephones usually via the Internet or a bespoke connection to the supplier. The host platform carries out the functions normally handled by an office based telephone system. Very useful for smaller offices ( as there is minimal cash outlay) or for sites that have more than one office in different locations.
